April 2025 โ€“ Monthly Update

ย โ€œThe Sweetest Dogโ€

Melonโ€™s Happy Tail

After rescuing an emaciated, tick-infested pup from a rural Virginia road, Kiele was committed to nursing Melon back to good health and finding her a family that would never leave her behind. She gave her everythingย ย โ€“ supplements, medicated baths, antibiotics, flea and tick prevention, and hookworm treatmentย ย โ€“ย ย but little Melon had tested positive for heartworms, and she couldnโ€™t find her forever home without lifesaving treatment and a RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant. Fortunately, Kiele and Melon had a FurEver Friend by their side on the road to her new life.ย

Home Stretch: The Final Year ofย

25 by 2025 Recap

This month, we brought community members together for our annual 25 by 2025 update call where we shared the current percentage of pet-friendly shelters nationwide (19.5%!) and announced our revamped website, toolkit, and plans for the rest of the year. We learned a long time ago that it wasnโ€™t enough to just offer grant funding, but that we needed to support organizations in the process. Learn more about our virtual event and access the recording at the link below.

Our โ€œOld and Newโ€ Partner:ย
Humane World for Animals

Last month, a team of RedRover Responders volunteers and staff helped care for 52 cats rescued from a cruelty and neglect situation, and 48 dogs that needed relocation from their previous sheltering situation, working alongside our trusted friend and partner, Humane World for Animals, formerly called the Humane Society of the United States.

National Animal Crueltyย

Prevention Month

April is National Animal Cruelty Prevention Month, and while you protect animals every day of the year, weโ€™re sharing a few ways you can show compassion and kindness to animals this month and far into the future. Find out what you can do in your community to strengthen the human-animal bond.
