The perks of becoming pet-friendly

In 2015, staff at a shelter in South Carolina were faced with a decision: become pet-friendly, or turn away a survivor who refused to leave behind her two dogs. When staff members asked Kristina, “Can we take the whole family?” she simply said, “Yes, let’s figure it out.” Learn about this shelter’s journey to becoming pet-friendly through a RedRover Safe Housing grant and how pets “help turn the negative to a positive.”

Collaborating on the Navajo Nation
After months of learning, talking, and collaborating with Navajo-led animal welfare groups, community members, and other experts in the field, the RedRover Responders team partnered with The Parker Project in Arizona for a community-wide effort to help spay/neuter, vaccinate, and treat dogs in need on the Navajo Nation. Read about this special project to remove barriers to care for pets and their people.

Nine more shelters!
In our latest funding cycle, we awarded more than $336,000 in Safe Housing grants to five domestic violence shelters and four animal shelters! Four of the five domestic violence shelters received RedRover + Purina Purple Leash Project grants, enabling them to build onsite pet housing for the FIRST time. Through the Purple Leash Project, RedRover and Purina aim to ensure that at least 25% of domestic violence shelters are pet-friendly by 2025.
