September 2025 โ€“ Monthly Update

โ€œThe Glue for Our Familyโ€

Dustyโ€™s Happy Tail

Not long after moving into a new house, William and Ariel lost one of their cats to a urinary blockage. Then, their senior cat experienced a series of urinary issues before being diagnosed with and succumbing to cancer. They had just welcomed a baby when their surviving cat, Dusty, began experiencing unusual urinary symptoms. With so much change in the home, paying for Dustyโ€™s treatment was proving to be a burden. Ariel went online and applied to the RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant program, imploring that โ€œEven a small amount would make a huge difference in our ability to stay afloat and prevent the loss of another animal from our household.โ€ When it comes to making a huge difference for pets and families in crisis, we can always count on the FurEver Friends.

Lunch and Learn Throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month

This October, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, RedRover is hosting a powerful new webinar series highlighting the vital role pets play in the lives of survivors โ€“ and why creating pet-inclusive solutions is critical to safety and healing. The series launches with a dynamic panel discussion on Tuesday, September 30, featuring leaders from Purinaโ€™s Purple Leash Project, DomesticShelters.org, the National Organization for Victim Advocacy, and Alexandra House.

ย Hundreds of Dogs Helped through RedRover Responders

In August, our RedRover Responders staff and volunteers traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to help the Humane Society of Tulsa with an alleged cruelty case. With more than 300 Maltese dogs and puppies in need of care, our team worked diligently to make sure they were given the attention and support they needed. Our daily tasks included preparing meals and feeding, cleaning cages and kennels, grooming, and our favorite part โ€“ providing plenty of chin scratches and belly rubs.

Supporting Children Through Trauma with Humane Education

For many children, pets are not just companions โ€“ they are protectors, confidants, and emotional lifelines in homes marked by instability or abuse. When that bond is disrupted by violence, children suffer deeply, and the trauma can have lasting effects. Explore the link between domestic violence and animal cruelty, its impact on children, and how shelters can play a role in breaking the cycle through humane education. By integrating programs like RedRover Readers, we can build empathy and resilience in children while promoting safety for both people and pets.
